Alec and his sister Jane are high ranking members of the volturi Guard. They serve Aros and do his bidding. As mortals, he and Jane were suspected of witch craft and were to be burned at the stake, so Aros had them created before he planned to, but has never regretted their addition to his coven.
His ability to take away all senses with his thoughts makes him very valuable to the Volturi. Everyone is at his mercy except Bella.

Alec arrives with the whole of the Volturi at the meadow to make claim to the members of the Cullen family that Aros desires, using the rumor of a vampire child their reason for attack. Alec and the rest of the Volturi come and find more than they expected.
