In Twilight, we meet the many facets of Emmett. Though his vampire talent is his strength, we find him to be compassionate and comical. He doesn't understand Edward's fascination for a human, but in time, he grows fond of Bella himself and finds her highly amusing.
Emmett teams up with Edward and the other family members to try and draw James away from Edward so that they can then deal with him.
When Bella is found bitten by James, Emmett along with the others deal with James while Edward saves her life.

In New Moon, Emmett leaves with the rest of the Cullen family after Bella's life is put in danger. Emmett spends a lot of his time hunting while he waits for his brother to return, but Edward is suffering just as much as Bella is, so it doesn't look as though it will be soon.

In Eclipse, Emmett has returned to Forks with the rest of the family and like everyone else, life is back to normal. It is agreed that Bella will officially become his sister at the end of graduation and he is happy with the thought.
When a newborn vampires come to Forks to bring an end to Bella, he is more than happy to take care of them once and for all. Even the prospect of the Volturi doesn't scare him, he is up for the challenge.

In Breaking Dawn, Bella and Edward are finally getting married, their family is nearly complete.
When the newlyweds come back pregnant, Emmett and the family rally together to do all they can for the rapid pregnancy of Bella.
After the baby is born, the Volturi finally visit to take care of the Cullen family and claim those they want for their own needs.
