In Twilight, Jasper is the member of the family that struggles the most with the vegetarian way of life. He is quiet and keeps pretty much to himself with Alice at his side.
Jasper has the ability to influence emotions, but that means he is also affected by the moods of those around him.
When Bella's life is threatened, Alice and Jasper take Bella away to try and protect her. Jasper has the chance to comfort Bella as well as calm her.

In New Moon, Jasper and the rest of the Cullen family leave Forks after Jasper attempts to attack Bella after her finger gets a papercut. He struggles with the event and Edward feels it is best if the whole family leave her to continue her existence the way it should be ... very human.

In Eclipse, Jasper tells his story of when he was mortal and then the first 100 years as a vampire. This gives an interesting insight into why Jasper struggles with being a vegetarian more than the others. His life before meeting Alice is what will save the Cullen family against the impending attack from the newborns in Seattle that are soon heading to Forks.
Jasper teaches the family how to deal with the newborns and dispose of them, also showing the wolves that watch the vampires practise their techniques until they're prepared.

In Breaking Dawn,Jasper and the rest of the Cullen family attend Bella and Edward's family. It isn't long until danger surrounds Bella again when they return home early from the honeymoon with Bella pregnant with Edward's child.
Not long after the baby is born, the Volturi come to deal with the Cullen's family.
