It's Bella's 18th birthday and she's celebrating it with the Cullen's family. A small paper cut changes the festivities to danger when Jasper attacks Bella when he smells her blood. Edward is torn. He loves Bella with every ounce of his being, he has waited so long for her, but his very existence puts her in danger, so he makes the decision to move away with his family for her protection. Distraught and heart broken, Bella finds solace in the company of her best friend Jacob, but his feelings run deeper than just friendship. Seattle is under attack by vampire attacks and the danger is getting closer to Forks and closer to Bella. Old legends are reignited with the presence of danger and vampires, so the werewolves return to La Push to protect their people and the people of Forks. Far away the Cullen's family is trying to live without Bella in their lives, without Edward in the family home. As he tries to come to terms with being without Bella, Alice has a vision of Bella jumping from a cliff and not rising back up, she believes Bella has just committed suicide. Rosalie mistakenly tells Edward and wrought with grief, he looks to those who enforce vampire rules and begs for his life to also be ended. Now it is Bella's turn to save Edward, but can she get there in time and can she survive being a mortal with knowledge in the city of Volerra where this secret has been kept for so long by their rules and actions.
